Project Description

Twin 84,000-square-foot schools, each with 38 regular classrooms, a gymnasium, cafeteria, computer lab, music room, science lab, library and administrative areas. Funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) program, the South school was relocated to higher, safer ground and built 12 feet off the ground to meet FEMA’s Advisory Base Flood Elevation standards, which better protect the facility from future storms. In order to more efficiently utilize resources, South Hancock Elementary serves as a replacement for Gulfview and C.B. Murphy Elementary, both destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. West Hancock School is identical to the South Hancock Elementary School. Both have the same design, but each has a different interior paint scheme and brick color.
