Project Description

This laboratory school building for the School of Engineering is a six-story, 116,000-square-foot architectural-exposed structural cast-in-place concrete structure that accommodates undergraduate and graduate studies in information technology, bioengineering, and nanotechnology. The flexible space features laboratories and research spaces extending from a central core plan. The exposed architectural concrete includes integral sandstone color, which demanded precise formwork to provide a quality finish.

In addition to providing engineering, the project united the School of Engineering campus, which were previously ten disparate buildings. The facility’s courtyard and café were designed as a gathering and unifying space for the engineering students. Additionally, Tutor Hall serves as home for the centralized offices for the undergraduate student affairs, engineering mentoring program, center for engineering diversity, women in engineering, and the student tutoring program, as well as space for student organizations & meetings and undergraduate advising.
