Project Description

The facility was designed to house both institutional and clinical mental health patients. Because of the proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, the building is designed to the most stringent hurricane impact requirements as well as for progressive collapse and blast impact requirements. This project was designed and constructed in compliance with EPAct 2005 and consists of a two-story, 64-bed in-patient and out-patient care facility along with a mechanical penthouse. The structural steel and concrete frame is supported by auger cast piling and capped with a standing seam metal roof. Because this project is located in the middle of an existing active hospital campus, extensive coordination was required for all work involving the relocation of existing infrastructure as well as the installation of site utilities, roadways, and parking. The site utility portion of this project provided sanitary sewer service to the existing campus as well as the newly developed buildings and included the replacement of the existing sanitary sewer system with updated piping structures and a lift station. Installation of roadways and relocating utilities presented a challenge during construction since there could not be any interruption of the existing services to the facility during the construction period.
