Project Description

South Shore Hospital's ambitious modernization program updated the hospital, improved staff efficiency, consolidated ambulatory services and improved access to patients and visitors. This expansion involved constructing a four-level addition, adjacent to and atop the hospital’s Emilson Center, and renovating existing space. The program included a family-centered maternity unit that features all private rooms and expanded special care nursery for ill and premature newborns, operating suites, and an expanded emergency department that includes specialized units for pediatric, cardiovascular and trauma patients. The maternity expansion creates additional postpartum beds on one level, well-baby bassinets, special care nursery bassinets, antepartum beds, labor-delivery-recovery (LDR) rooms and two operating rooms. The renovation and expansion of the surgical program includes an ambulatory surgical unit and post-anesthesia care unit. The 14 operating rooms are all designed and equipped for complex procedures. Two of the rooms are large enough to accommodate cardiac surgery.

“Trust and teamwork are two elements that I believe are essential to the success of any project, large or small. Perini and TRO proved themselves to be exceptional partners.”
