Project Description

This project consisted of a 72,456-square-foot expansion and over 93,000 square feet of renovations to the existing Chester County Prison facility. The project included the construction of a 50,000-square-foot Juvenile Detention Center and upgrades to the existing wastewater treatment plant. The prison expansion provides additional single- and double-capacity housing for male and female inmates in the medium security, pre-release, and medical areas. A total of 256 cells (512 beds) were added, bringing the bed count to 1,040.

The Juvenile Detention Center provides a long-term solution to the problems experienced in this area. The existing center was inadequate to meet the needs of the county and thus, many juveniles were being sent to neighboring counties at significant cost to Chester County. This facility provides for three male, one female, and one shelter detention housing unit, each with on-unit counselors. Program space includes administrative offices, counselor offices, intake/discharge, medical suite, kitchen, dining/multipurpose rooms, five classrooms, chapel, full-size gymnasium, enclosed outdoor exercise yard, laundry and shop.
