Project Description

Set on an 84-acre site, the 25-building complex is comprised of 3,000 beds in six 240-cell medium security general housing units, a maximum security detention unit, a 264-cell minimum security "dormitory" style housing unit, and an inpatient/extended care unit. This phased design-build project interconnects the housing pods with common general areas including a central power plant, administration building, intake facility, warehouse facility, maintenance and support facility, and a 246,000-square-foot industries building housing food processing and warehousing facility. The central kitchen plant supports both the prison and several other New Jersey State facilities. The food service system utilizes a cook-chill system of meal delivery and functions as an industrial-type operation. Additional facilities that service the entire complex include maintenance and receiving, recreational services, commissary, administration, educational, library services, intake/medical visiting building, and two observation towers.
