Project Description

Rincon Center is a 1,050,000-square-foot mixed-use complex constructed on a constricted urban site, next to the Rincon Annex Post Office, which is listed in the Register of National Historic Places. The project was designed to incorporate the existing historic building and included adding two stories atop the building, in a way to not visually impact the historic façade.

The first phase of the project largely consisted of the rehabilitation of the three-story postal annex. The addition of two 36,000-square-foot floors and the atrium galleria, with a 200-foot-long skylight and landscaped terraced balconies, provided the right combination of attractive amenities. The atrium’s most exciting feature is one of the world’s tallest waterfalls, a remarkable 85-foot rain column that free falls from a skylight to a shallow terrazzo basin.

The renovation incorporated a complete seismic upgrade including new concrete shear walls located on three sides of the building, and life safety and barrier-free improvements.
