Project Description

World-class facility located on San Diego Bay in the heart of the city’s downtown. Designed to host major conventions, trade shows, meetings and special events, the Convention Center has over 1.7 million square feet of space. The concourse is a 300,000-square-foot multi-purpose complex for hosting trade shows, conventions, meetings, seminars, conferences, performing arts programs, social events, and other activities. The project consisted of placing 147,000 cubic yards of reinforced concrete. Supported slab construction varied from post-tension to metal pan and drop-heads to conventional beam and slab to metal decking. Many elements required architectural rustication and a sandblast finish including exposed beams, walls, columns, arches, and “Fin Frame” construction. Multicolored and patterned concrete was formed and placed on all open-air decks and walkways.
