The 437,500-square-foot center is home to the Houston Ballet and Houston Grand Opera and contains two separate performing arts theaters. The Brown Theater is the larger of the two and seats 2,400 with a 17,000-square-foot stage. The Cullen Theater seats 1,100 and hosts smaller productions and solo performances. At the time of construction, it was the first major opera house to be built in the U.S. in more than 20 years and was funded entirely by the private sector.
