Project Description
Located at Hanscom Air Force Base, the phased modernization program included the construction of a multi-story research building and tenant fit-up, multi-story parking garage, enlargement of existing cafeteria, relocation of existing utilities, installation of substation, chilled water plant expansion, steam plant expansion, and interim parking lots and relocation of roads and access ways. The 490,000-square-foot, four-story South Laboratory, partly used by the Department of Defense, is a technology-research center that features laboratory and office space on all four floors and common space located at various locations throughout the complex. The building has a 350-seat auditorium, library, and atriums at both main entrances and lobbies. The 975-vehicle, four-story precast parking garage features a glass and white steel stair tower tied into the structural frame that serves as the major entry point. The 5,300-square-foot cafeteria enlargement included an addition for increasing the seating area of the existing space. The chilled water expansion brought an additional 4,000 tons of additional chiller capacity, and modifications to an existing steam generation plant increased by 48,000 pounds per hour.
