Project Description

The home of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns made Arizona history by being one of the largest public buildings in the state, which was completed three months ahead of schedule. The flexible seating design in this multi-purpose facility allows for an array of events from tractor pulls and the Big-Top Circus to football, hockey and concerts, with seating for 20,000 fans.

The four-level, 994,000-square-foot building includes team offices, food court, 88 luxury suites, an upscale restaurant, and separate practice facilities for the Suns. An attached 900-space parking structure, a mixture of precast and cast-in-place concrete, houses ticket offices, the central plant, below-grade secured access to a five-bay loading dock, and the arena floor. All levels of the garage access the arena.

The structure is 35,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete with a masonry veneer and structural steel roof. The arching roof structure has trusses up to 31 feet deep and 330 feet long, each assembled on the ground and lifted into place. The upper and lower bowl seating is all precast concrete.

“Perini was the prime contractor, and did an excellent job in their workmanship.”
