Project Description

In 2009, Frontier-Kemper ULC, J.F. Shea, and Aecon (Seymour-Cap Partnership) took over the contract for twin, 12.5-feet (3.8 meter) diameter, water tunnels for the Greater Vancouver Water District. One tunnel is used to transport raw water from the Capilano Reservoir to the Seymour Treatment Plant, and the second tunnel returns the treated water to the Capilano Water Distribution Network.

The project included tunnel support and control of groundwater; drill and blast excavation of underground chambers; excavation of twin, four-meter diameter, 270 meters deep, raised bored shafts; installation and backfill grouting of steel lining in all shafts and portions of the tunnels; and interconnection pipes from the shafts to nearby water mains.
