Project Description

The project consisted of a 100-foot by 70-foot area of a failed portion of the existing Glass Breakwater located approximately 2.5 miles onto the existing breakwater facing the open Philippine sea side of the breakwater.

The biggest challenge for this design-build project was to design an armor unit large enough to meet criteria for wave dissipation while small enough to be placed at the distance from shore within the crane’s radius and capacity. After review of several shapes and sizes, the cube concept was developed to meet both RFP design criteria as well as construction means and methods requirements. The project was successful to the extent the Navy adopted the design for breakwater repairs.
