Project Description

The MTA's East Side Access Project is a multi-billion dollar infrastructure project designed to bring Long Island Railroad to Grand Central Station in New York City. This contract, the Manhattan North Structures Package, involved the installation of permanent structural concrete lining and fit-outs within tunnels, caverns, and interior structures. The existing tunnels run from just north of Grand Central Terminal located in Manhattan to Long Island City, Queens. CM006 also included the rehabilitation of the 63rd Street Tunnel and construction of the 63rd Street Tunnel duct bench.

Work included three miles of tunnels and caverns between Queens and Grand Central Station in Manhattan, 1,500 concrete placements totaling 70,000 cubic yards, 11,000 linear feet of tunnel lining, three underground caverns, two multi-level underground structures, 24,000 linear feet of cast-in-place concrete duct bench, 1,000,000 square feet of PVC waterproofing, and 5.6 million pounds of reinforcement steel.
